While in Cincinnati I ended up at a trendy restaurant called Maribelle’s Tavern. The service was speedy and good, with friendly and happy staff. And the food was delicious. I ordered the Black Bean Burger (which is just what it sounds like), and it was really tasty. I mean really tasty. I’ll remember this burger for a while. For the included side, I ordered the Roasted Sweet Potatoes which are served up with whipped goat cheese and candied pecans. For dessert I grabbed a slice of carrot cake (to go), and it definitely didn’t disappoint. It was moist and flavorful. I can’t explain in words how delicious this meal was, but if you have the opportunity to find out for yourself you should swing by Maribelle’s and do so.

Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria is a Chicago staple. It’s one of the three big Chicago deep dish pizza chains, so I absolutely had to give it a try. I was walking back to the city from Lincoln Park, and came across the Gold Coast Lou Malnati’s location. I stopped in for some garlic bread with marinara sauce (pictured above) and a deep dish pizza (below). It was super tasty, although very heavy (not a surprise). The pizza was really flavorful and rich, and while I don’t usually favor the thick-crust pizza, this was good. The crust (we ordered the Buttercrust style pizza at the suggestion of friends and guidebooks) was actually yummy, and I ate it all when I almost never eat the crust. It was a good call, and the lunch tided me over for the rest of the day!

I’ve never had tiramisu in a glass before, but that’s how they served it at Azul
— one of the restaurants at the Westin La Paloma Resort in Tuscon, Arizona. While their menu left much to be desired where vegetarian entrees are concerned, this treat was delicious, relatively light (as far as creamy desserts are concerned), and a visual marvel.
